A modern tale of fortune-hunting in the world of oil rigs in West Texas. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will be the middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. They are essentially the managers of the land and secure leases so that oil and gas can be drilled. Like a construction foreman, they build roads, workers’ housing (man camp), supervise the assembly of excavation equipment, and the drilling of the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixer, problem solver, and facilitator. Mentioned in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily be rated an 8.5-9. If not for that sassy and so sexually exposed daughter & ex-wife/mother. They are not in the service of the plot and are just annoying and insulting to the women of West Texas. I am from far West Texas myself. I kind of understand where Sheridan is coming from, but this is awful. The women of West Texas are the strongest and most ambitious women I know. Plus the writing and acting are great. Sheridan could easily have another Yellowstone on her hands if she could get rid of the very uncomfortable inter-family horniness. But again, I love Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and for the most part an absolutely thoroughly enjoyable show.
