For sale: The glass is indestructible, so your meal will last forever. (2024). I recently rented the Spanish thriller The Coffee Table (2022) on Prime. The story is about a couple who have recently become parents and learn to work together. One day, the husband is left alone at home to take care of their newborn while the wife is out and comes home with dinner guests. The husband has an accident and the night takes a dramatic turn. The film is directed by Caye Casas (Asylum: Twisted Horror and Fantasy Tales), and stars David Pareja (Amigo), Estefanía de los Santos (Part 7), Claudia Riera (Black Snow), and Josep Maria Riera (Fugitive: Twisted Horror and Fantasy Tales). The premise of the film is wild and addictive. The events unfold quickly, and you squirm, trying to imagine how someone could handle such a situation. The acting is excellent, capturing the situation perfectly. The sets and atmosphere are tense and gripping, with a constant sense of “the elephant in the room”; only a character and the audience know it. When the reveal happens, it’s stunning. In summary, The Coffee Table is a unique horror/thriller, well written and even better executed. It’s a slow burn, but a brilliant, tragic journey. I rate it 8/10 and highly recommend it.
