Reed with Hugh as their top choice for the role
Two young religious women are drawn into a game of cat and mouse in the house of a strange man. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East in Heretic and other modern women slaying the horror game. Hugh Grant once said in an interview "I’m getting bored of playing obvious roles and being scripted" – writer/directors Scott Beck and Brian Woods saw this interview and wrote Mr. Mr. Reed is stabbed in the neck with a letter opener, which he then pulls out.

This would cause blood to splatter all over his hand, his clothes, the floor… but later in the basement, when he’s at the trap door, there’s little evidence of that. Mr. Reed: I promise you, the last thing I wanted to do was find the one true religion, but alas, I did. The end credits state that no generative Al was used in the making of the film.

However, it lost me about halfway through
I really wish the writers had chosen a different path. Heretic could have been one of the most brilliant movies ever written if their villain had been different and had different motivations. Although it’s hard to pick a number for this movie, I think I’m feeling 6 1/2. Great acting. Great cinematography.
A thought-provoking film until it isn’t
And as I said, excellent script in the first half. The ending is also more ambiguous than I would like. If the whole movie was like the first half, this would be a solid 9. But alas… From Alien: Romulus to Road House, take a look back at some of our favorite 2024 posters.
